Steve Eagels (ESQ), safety engineer and ESH coordinator, will speak about ergonomic issues of which we all should be aware. Steve manages Argonne's Ergonomic, Injury and Illness Programs within the ESQ Division. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional.

Please join us for our first Conversation on Mentoring. Postdoctoral Program Coordinator Tina Henne will give a brief overview of the Postdoctoral Mentoring Program and give an update on the 2012 Mentoring Program Survey Results. Esmeralda Yitamben, CNM Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow will then share some recommended practices learnt at the 2011 University of New Mexico Mentoring Conference, “Learning Across Disciplines.” Lunch will be provided. The Postdoctoral Society of Argonne will hold their November General Assembly Meeting at this event. Voting for new officers will also take place. All postdocs encouraged to attend.

Eddi Langenberg (ESQ), ESH Program Initiatives Manager and Jeff Ullian (ESQ), ES&H Training Team Leader will discuss Argonne’s new safety initiative, Observation Conversations.  This program was developed to help foster an open dialogue between supervisors and employees.  As a result of planned walkthroughs, supervisors are able to communicate more effectively with employees and are addressing issues that would have otherwise been overlooked. Observation Conversations has been effective in assisting department leaders to identify situations that have placed staff and facilities at risk.
