Postdoctoral Appointees - Job Opportunities

Sr.  Development Engineer - Electrochemistry/Batteries/Energy Storage - San Diego

Responsibilities:
Develops new or enhances existing manufacturing processes used to create state of the art energy storage technology devices and subcomponents for lab scale demonstration and pilot scale production. Provides definition of standard processing methods, and handling equipment requirements and specifications.
Evaluates and improves line processing techniques and methods used to result in lab or pilot scale processes that have scalability to higher volume production. .
Develops and reviews technical requirements with design staff to ensure compatibility of processing methods developed with materials and other considerations for pilot scale manufacturing..
Recommends and prepares process and materials changes, additions, and modifications which will facilitate manufacturing.
Designs and executes test suites aimed at uncovering the potential of materials and process combinations. Compiles and evaluates test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process and material specifications. Based on those results, recommends and makes/enables fundamental, impactful changes to processes, processing equipment, materials or other aspects of the process or production line to result in desired device characteristics.
Requires to conceive and plan projects involving definition and selection of new approaches and concepts in processing and developing material components to optimize results of lab scale and pilot product performance.
Takes processes from lab scale to pilot scale by defining and specifying equipment and infrastructure required, leading the procurement of that equipment and coordinating the installation and commissioning of hardware and processes for lab and pilot scale manufacturing.

Requirements:
Ph.D or other advanced degree in material science, materials engineering, electro/other chemistry, or other relevant technical discipline.
Minimum of 10 years of process development experience, with at least 5 years in technical leadership roles in Energy Storage or related industry.
Demonstrated track record of success in developing new lab scale technologies by introducing new material and new processes that show fundamental capability for scale up from lab or pilot scale to production scale implementation
Strong understanding of the relationship between materials, process and product performance.
Strong understanding of the role of electrochemistry role in energy storage devices, such as ultracapacitors, batteries, hybrid capacitor devices and fuel cells.
Skills in characterizing materials by different techniques and methodologies.
Knowledge and experience in electrode formulation and production very desirable.
Strong independent decision making and leadership, and demonstrated success as a highly influential team member in a cross-functional team environment.
Excellent communication skills with a passion for product & process improvement.
Must be self-motivated and a self starter with a strong desire to make progress through focus and dedication to the efforts.
