Tenure-track Positions

Michigan Technological University announces a Strategic Faculty Hiring Initiative (SFHI) that will add ten tenure-track positions, open in rank, during 2009.

SFHI is an ongoing commitment to substantially expand Michigan Tech's faculty resources in targeted strategic areas of multidisciplinary research and inquiry. This initiative follows on last year's first SFHI which resulted in ten hires in the area of Sustainability.

Michigan Tech seeks to attract exceptional candidates whose interests and capabilities match the following objectives and activities:

· Develop computationally-based tools, processes, and environments that will address complex research problems in diverse disciplines across the University.

· Combine the talents of both core computing and computational applications scholars to extend the boundaries of high-performance computing (HPC). Address challenging research issues requiring innovative and groundbreaking uses of HPC

· Investigate systems which pose challenging modeling problems.

· Create an intellectual climate that will foster synergies leading to new research methodologies for advanced computational techniques which, in turn, will spur innovation.

Included in this particular SFHI are two endowed professorships, with the possibility of a third.

The two are:

· The Dave House Endowed Professorship in Electrical and Computer Engineering;

· The William and Gloria Jackson Endowed Professorship

Seeking an individual whose expertise and activity bridges the disciplines of computer science, electrical and computer engineering, and business entrepreneurship.

Faculty selected for the House and Jackson Professorships will be leaders in their fields with national and international reputations.

Candidates selected for the other positions will have exceptional accomplishments in their fields commensurate with their stage of career.

All candidates will be expected to develop and sustain outstanding research programs that advance our capacity to solve complex problems.

Applications and nominations are sought for these ten positions.

Michigan Tech seeks a diverse applicant pool from a wide range of disciplines in this strategic initiative.

For full consideration, applications should be received by January 30, 2009; review will continue until all positions are filled. Attractive salary, benefit and start-up packages will be provided for successful applicants.
