Assistant or Associate Professor
Chemical and Biological Engineering


The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is seeking one tenure-track faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, preferably in the following areas:

i) biochemical engineering, ii) polymers, or iii) emerging energy technologies.

Collaborations in existing research areas within the department are encouraged ( http://cbe.sdsmt.edu ).

A Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline is required at time of appointment.

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching graduate/undergraduate courses and conducting scientific research in chemical and biological engineering.

It is expected that successful candidates will initiate and/or sustain an externally sponsored research program.

Faculty members filling this new position will participate in the M.S. Chemical Engineering program and the Ph.D. program in Chemical and Biological Engineering.

The CBE faculty enjoy a close supporting relationship to the Composites and Polymer Engineering Laboratory, the South Dakota State 2010 Center for Bioprocessing Research and Development, and the new NSF I/ UCRC Center for Bioenergy ( http://bioenergy.sdsmt.edu ).

The desired starting date is January 2009.

The School of Mines is a state university providing undergraduate and graduate degrees in science, engineering and interdisciplinary sciences with a student population of approximately 2,100 traditional and non-traditional learners representing 42 states and 33 countries.

The university is located at the foot of the beautiful Black Hills in Rapid City , South Dakota 's second largest city. Twenty-five miles from Mount Rushmore, Rapid City has a relatively mild climate and the Black Hills offer numerous opportunities for summer and winter outdoor experiences.
