The Ohio State University College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in energy storage systems, with application to transportation and the electric power grid.
Areas of expertise sought include: energy systems, thermal sciences, dynamic systems and control, electric power and electrochemistry, with preference for candidates who have interest in both experimental and modeling/computational research, with a strong systems focus.
Candidates will be considered at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank, commensurate with experience.
Application Deadline: 5/31/2010.
The position will be affiliated with the Center for Automotive Research (CAR -- car.osu.edu), an interdisciplinary research center in the college of engineering. CAR has recently received funding from private, state and federal sources to establish a national center of excellence for energy storage systems research.
The candidate is expected to contribute to the design and development of a new energy storage systems laboratory that is part of an expansion of the facilities of the Center and that will complement the existing energy storage system characterization and battery aging laboratories at CAR.
The College of Engineering comprises more than 260 faculty members, offers 15 graduate degree programs in engineering and architecture and is home to a number of federally-supported research centers, state-supported research and commercialization centers of excellence and industrial consortia. The College's annual research expenditures were $128M in 2009 and comprise a key component to the University's position as 7th among public universities nationally in research expenditures and 2nd nationally in industrial research expenditures. The College continues to aggressively support multi-department, interdisciplinary initiatives in energy-related research and has hired six energy-related faculty members in the past two years. Energy remains the top research and strategic hiring priority in the College.
Requirements: Automotive or energy storage industry R&D experience is welcome. Candidates should hold Ph.D.s in mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering or related discipline(s). The successful candidate is expected to build strong collaborations with faculty in mechanical, electrical, chemical and materials engineering and to actively participate in multidisciplinary teaching and research activities.
Application Instructions: For consideration, please submit a curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests and the names and addresses of at least three references, in electronic format.
Applications should be forwarded to:
