Job Description

The Research Scientist candidate will lead discovery and optimization efforts during the development of new polishing products and platform technologies in both business segments and emerging technology. This will include work to define and clarify key mechanisms governing the performance characteristics and specifying the critical parameters of the product or technology platform, including raw materials, scale-up, and commercialization. Responsibilities include the following:
• Conceive, plan, and conduct innovation activities focused on obtaining a fundamental understanding of the formulation and manufacturing of polishing slurries and pads, leading to new and improved products or processes • Work with associates and colleagues to achieve research goals as both team member and individual contributor • Work with customers and stakeholders to understand their performance applications and needs • Evaluate and optimize existing product platforms for new applications • Discover new technology platforms and slurry technologies • Establish key CMP product characteristics and mechanisms controlling product performance • Communicate/discuss results directly with the organization and customers • Document research results for intellectual property

Requirements

Demonstrated track record in generating invention ideas and reducing creative concepts to new products • Demonstrated capability and proven track record in developing in a team setting • Strong ability in understanding customer and industry needs, performance targets, and developing timelines • Energetic scientist, capable of contributing as either an individual or part of a highly interdependent team • Results-oriented self-starter, capable of setting goals and then planning and executing in a timely fashion • Flexible and adaptable to changing industry and workplace • Highly innovative and committed to continuous learning • Project management responsibilities • Good data analysis, statistical analysis and design of experiments using Six Sigma methodology and tools • Ability to plan, organize, supervise, and execute multiple and complex research projects • Ability and experience in preparing and delivering project reports, papers, and presentations • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Familiar with computer controlled instrumentation and various analytical methods
Applicable Education, Experience, Licensing, and Capabilities: • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics • Understanding of colloidal science, inorganic chemistry, surface science, particles, and polymers • 0-12+ yrs in applied research • Experience in an industrial R&D setting preferred • Proven track record of project execution
