TITLE: Molten Salt Reactors (MSR) – Numerical modeling of the
coupling between a molten salt nuclear reactor and its fuel reprocessing
plant.
SUBJECT:
The work is within the framework of the study of future nuclear
systems, and more specifically the concept of Molten Salt Reactors
(MSR) MSRs have the unique feature to make use of a mixture of
molten fluorides serving both as fuel and coolant. This opens the potential for online refueling,
reprocessing and fission product removal.
The final objective of the work is to propose a design for the
MSR reprocessing unit coupled to the reactor. This requires in particular the determination of operating
conditions of the unit (fuel drainage flow rate, separation performances)
in accordance to the operation of the reactor.A simplified model of both the reactor and reprocessing
unit will be achieved so that sensitivity studies can be performed.
TOOLS:
-COPERNIC (simple tool to assist reactor design)
-PROSIM (multicomponent chemistry code)
-APOLLO2 (neutronics
code)
