STUDENT EXCHANGE PROPOSAL

SUBJECT:
Prediction of Creep damage in high Cr ferrite steel with electromagnetic nondestructive methods

SUMMARY:

High Cr ferrite steel, one of creep resistant steels, is promising candidate materials for next generation nuclear power station, especially for steam turbine components. They are exposed to severe conditions of 450-600 C and 15-100 MPa. Under such condition, creep damage is dominant as life-limiting mechanism. Therefore, some nondestructive methods are required for detection and evaluation of creep damage in chromium-rich steels. Carbide precipitation and cavity generation precede creep damage and these phenomena affect magnetic properties of ferrite steel. The aim of this work is to investigate the use of magnetic property measurements as a nondestructive tool for micro-structural evaluation in chromium-rich steels.
