INTERNATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

STUDENT EXCHANGE PROPOSAL

SUBJECT:
Simulation study on the possibility of D-3He fusion based on fast-ignition inertial confinement scheme

SUMMARY:

A possibility of igniting D3He plasma in the fast-ignition inertial confinement fusion scheme is examined. Use of a small amount of DT fuel as igniter would be indispensable in order to mitigate the requirement on laser driver energy. Simulations will be made for DT/D3He fuel pellet models compressed to 3000-4000 times the liquid density by using FIBMET, a 2D simulation code.
