Argonne National Laboratory Tribal Internship Program
280-DEP-1 : FUEL CELLS (This project is part of CSE Division)
Argonne researchers are working on many aspects of fuel cells systems to reduce cost and improve performance of generating electricity. This effort will speed the development of fuel cells for stationary and transportation applications. Argonne is working on : (1) low-cost catalysts to replace the expensive platinum currently used in polymer electrolyte fuel cells being developed for automotive propulsion power, (2) new fuel cell designs to improve catalyst utilization, (3) polymer electrolyte membranes to operate at higher temperatures and under low-humidity conditions to reduce system cost, size, and complexity, and (4) polymeric materials for on-board hydrogen fuel storage for transportation fuel cell systems.
