Argonne National Laboratory Tribal Internship Program

288-DEP-1 : INTERNET COMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (This project is part of DIS Division)

Argonne National Laboratory is providing support to various federal agencies in the preparation of Internet-based energy and environmental communications products. These projects involve design, development, and management of World Wide Web sites to support environmental impact statement preparation, as well as public information/involvement web sites relating to renewable and conventional energy topics. For example, current Internet communication projects include Web sites for solar energy development in the U.S. Southwest, electric transmission and oil and gas pipeline corridor designation in the Eastern U.S. , and environmentally sound development of natural gas from shale formations.

An intern for this project could work on a variety of tasks depending on interests and educational background of the selected student. Internships could be geared toward technical work relating to Web site development, such as Internet programming, graphics preparation, usability testing, and Web site maintenance; or content development tasks, such as topical research, analysis, and writing.

Alternatively, an intern could assist at a more general project level, such as providing technical staff with support in data collection and compilation, coordinating content development, developing process documentation, or developing project fact sheets and news items for informing Argonne staff of current scientific developments concerning energy and environmental issues, including climate change.
