One of the goals of CPATH-CBT is to identify the computing competencies and skills, key knowledge and dispositions needed in the workforce, both today and tomorrow. In order to achieve this goal, a set of CBTs (Community Building Teams), each is composed by one faculty member with two to three students, will be deployed to specific industry sectors and research laboratories. The teams will be charged with gathering information concerning the skill set, the attitudes, trends and disposition in demand for this industry, and to predicate the future computing career opportunities. As a learning experience, students will participate in the process as investigators. In this presentation, we will address information gathering issues such as:
• understanding company structure and organizational culture
• preparing the interviewee
• constructing context-free (inductive and deductive) balanced questions
• using proper languages
• eliciting information
• conducting JID (joint interview design)
• collaborative information gathering
• ensuring technical accuracy
• sampling and managing multiple viewpoints
• discovering biases and building an analytical model for information validation
Real world experiences will be shared.
