Abstract

This presentation describes research to compare the performance of identical computing hardware under both Microsoft Windows XP and it's alternative Ubuntu Linux. User level tasks such as starting up and booting, editing files, browsing the web, network file transfer, file searching, and multimedia browsing will be analyzed. This research determines which systems is best suited at which tasks, and where performance can be improved.
