ANL Research Highlights

Lin's main research focus at Argonne was to understand the principles in designing protein building blocks that can form complex structures with dynamic properties. Expanding this work should lead to protein-based artificial materials that mimic the properties exhibited by biological system. Lin's other research efforts included designing protein building blocks that can be precisely anchored to nanostructured polymer surface with desired orientation; and using synchrotron X-ray scattering to probe the structure changes of surface immobilized proteins in-situ under different stimulus.

New Endeavors

Lin believes the next generation of materials will emerge from the marriage of nanotechnology and biology. As a material scientist who also obtained substantial training in bio-related fields, Lin is prepared to face the challenge and take the opportunity in this direction. Lin's current research plans are to establish material platforms that will bring in biological characteristics (i.e. responsive behavior, functional multi-protein complex) for medical and energy applications.
