ANL Research Highlights

As an Argonne Division postdoc, I synthesized and electrochemically characterized novel carbonaceous materials used in lithium rechargeable batteries. A patent and several publications were derived from this work. I established collaborations with several ANL Divisions (Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Intense Pulse Neutron Source, Advanced Photon Source, and Energy Systems) and many other academic institutions such as Texas A&M, Illinois Institute of Technology, Wright State University , and the Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The work performed at the APS pioneered in situ electrochemical characterization and led to the basic understanding of carbon formation using inorganic systems as templates. A complete list of publications can be found here

New Endeavors

On January of 2007, I became the Postdoctoral Programs Coordinator. I administer and manage the Laboratory's Postdoctoral Programs, providing guidance to the Laboratory Division offices to ensure requirements set by the Postdoctoral Program Office. I also manage the selection process to hire postdoc candidates to include Named, Director's and Division Postdoctoral Fellowships. Another important function is the establishment of a mentoring program (brown bag seminars, pizza lunches, social gatherings with ANL upper management, etc). It is the intention of the Postdoctoral Office to make the postdoc tenure as rewarding and productive as possible. A complete description of ANL postdoctoral programs and activities can be found at http://www.dep.anl.gov/postdocs/
