ANL Research Highlights
I came to Argonne in January 2006 as an Engineering post-doc. My first assignment covered cross sections library processing for the Very High Temperature Reactor. As part of my tasks, I developed the procedure, functionalized the generated library, and modified/added new modules for the spatial heterogeneity. I worked in collaboration with my colleagues, revising & updating the thermal capability of the DIF3D/REBUS code system, which was mainly developed for fast reactors. I also was involved in the OSMOSE program (OScillation in Minerve of isOtopes in “Eupraxic” Spectra), benchmarking the minor actinides nuclear cross sections in the ENDF and JEF data sets using the experimental results.
In November 2006 my assignment focused on the conceptual design of an accelerator-driven subcritical assembly (ADS), using the existing accelerator at Kharkov Institute of Technology , Ukraine as a starting point. I am still working on this project in my current position. Based on our work, the ADS facility has been converted from using high-enriched uranium (HEU) fuel to using low-enriched uranium (LEU) fuel, while preserving the neutron flux performance. The shielding design of ADS, which is more challenging than that of a critical reactor, has also been performed.
New Endeavors
My work is mainly focused on the neutronics part, but I also collaborate with the Argonne scientists specializing in thermal hydraulics and mechanics for the design of the whole facility.
